Potts Preserve Hooty Point Rd Inverness, FL |
Overview
This is an easy three day primitive car camping trip to Potts Preserve, which is a Southwest Florida Water Management property on the Withlacoochee River, northwest of Inverness with only a porta-potty for facilities (so you'll also need to bring your own water).
Plan to arrive on Friday, Feb. 12. You may want to plan to get there by the early afternoon so you can set up before dark. You will need detailed directions to find the campsite, even if you've been there before, so don't leave home without them!
Saturday morning, we'll day-paddle Gum Slough / Seven Springs Run, which I think is one of the prettiest paddles in Florida. It's a live, development-free, little traveled swamp river/spring run, often with lots of wildlife. Bring your favorite snacks to the Saturday evening Happy Hour, hors d'oeuvres and dinner at the campsite, followed of course, by a campfire.
Sunday, we'll drive over to the Rainbow River and paddle upstream from the put-in at a county park. Dinner in Inverness on Sunday evening is optional.
Monday morning is unstructured (there's a hiking trail by the campsite) and after lunch, I'm going home.
DO NOT RSVP TO THIS WEBSITE. YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE TRIP LEADER, JIM OSTRANDER AT 561-627-1943 OR EMAIL HIM AT J14152@GMAIL.COM
Vickie's comment, "I went on this trip last year and really had a great time. I highly recommend this trip."
You'll need your own kayak or canoe, camping equipment for primitive car camping, food, clothing, water etc..
