Overview

The next major meteor shower in 2012 – the Lyrid shower in April – will be virtually moon-free. Mark your calendar for the best night – the evening of April 21 until dawn April 22, 2012. The nights before and after might also feature some Lyrid meteors

Lets take advantage of this and hang out for the night at Elk Neck State Park Camp Grounds.Fortunately it is a Saturday night - hopefully it will not be too chilly. Make your own reservations - post to your RSVP if you want to find someone to share a tent or site with. Bring something to throw on the grill and a dish to share for dinner and snacks for the long night. Unfortunately as this is a state park there is no alcohol allowed.

On weekdays, Elk Neck charges a $3/vehicle admission fee. On weekends and holidays, it’s $3/person. Out of state residents add $1. (no vehicle fee in winter months) Use of campsites and picnic pavilions at Elk Neck State Park is billed at the following nightly rates: Campsite, $26/night (not open during winter months) Campsite with electric, $31/night Campsite with water/sewer/electric, $36/night Camper cabins, $51/night Full service cabins, $51/night

I will check with the campground - they may require a 2 night stay on weekends but as this is not the height of camping season we may be able to do one night.
