Overview

The redbuds are at their peak popping potential! This is a bring-your-camera hike.

Case Mt. recreation area / Salt Creek is gorgeous now. Blue bush lupine, golden fiddleneck, white popcorn and of course the redbud trees are in full bloom.

This is a foothill hike so be prepared for warm weather, and the usual foothill pasture/oak terrain with possible ticks, poison oak, and rattlers waking up. I advise long pants for those taking the longer hike off-road. As usual, bring the 10 essentials, lunch, and plenty H2O.

We will meet behind the Village Market at 8am (takes about 1.5 hrs from Fresno, 40 min from Visalia), near the bank and Pizza Factory, and then carpool up to the Skyline Dr. trailhead 10 minutes from there. If you want to carpool from Fresno or Visalia, use the comments section below to organize.

All levels are welcome. We will probably split up into groups on the trail, based on hiking speed/endurance. Not everyone will go the full distance. Some will want a shorter hike, some longer, you can choose. This hike is low-moderate, though beginners would think it strenuous and steep in places, and advanced hikers would think it not a big challenge. It goes up about 1,500' in about 2.5 miles, so it will have a work-out.

For those unfamiliar with this little-known secret place, it's a Salt Creek intro. For those used to 6+ mile hikes, I will show you a 6.5 mile loop off the old ranch road to see some charming waterfalls and unmarked trails, however there's not big water this year.

After, we can meet at Pizza Factory for beer and pizza! Be sure to work that possibility out if you carpool.

The topo map is the 7.5 minute "Case Mountain" map and can be downloaded at the USGS map locator here. Then click "download topo maps", search "Case Mountain", click on the red marker, and download a 7.5 minute map!

If you sign up and need to cancel, please cancel your RSVP by Friday afternoon so folks on the wait list can sign up. As always, I am organizing us to meet, but I am not leading or guiding this outing, and by participating you agree that you are liable and responsible for yourself and won't hold anyone else liable.
