Great trail with lots of hills and turns in a quiet valley area! Passes over a small creek. You can either take the trail that winds around the edge of the Seven Oaks Recreation Area or explore the side trails within the valley. Great view from the top of the ski hills! Cind Capellen (86) 6 months ago N/A: 9 Completed 2 Reviews Wondering if this could be correct? I live in Boone and from the views posted this looks to be a the ski hill, not near Mortenson/Highway 30 Ames. Am I missing something as an Ames native? There is no "river" in the located area, either. The Des Moines River, however, sides Seven Oaks ski area. What gives? Matt Procyk (232) almost 3 years ago N/A: 3 Completed 4 Reviews Probably one of the best trails in central Iowa. Its at a recreation center and costs 3 dollars to use the trail. The campgrounds is only 5 dollars a night for a sight and you get access to the trail with that. I've been up there a few times recently because its the only hike with any real distance that I know about that isn't more than an hour from Des Moines. Also this time of year no one is camping so we had the entire campgrounds to ourselves which made it that much more of an escape and relaxing.
