Well maintained trail system located in Lincoln National Forest, less than five minutes outside of Ruidoso, NM

The trail head is located in the upper parking lot to Grindstone Lake, and is very easy to find. The trail system generally loops around Grindstone Lake, and includes many miles of new trails that will open in late summer 2013. The seven mile loop begins at the parking lot trail head and follows a smooth, well maintained, single track trail around the lake. There are two excellent down hill sections, several fun switchbacks, and a very few difficult climbs

From the Bicycle Shop in down town Ruidoso turn right on Main Street and follow for about 1/4 mile to a traffic circle. Take the second right and turn on to D Street. Follow D Street for less than 1/4 mile up the hill to the intersection with 5th Street. Turn right on 5th street and take your immediate left onto Resort Drive. Follow Resort Drive for about 1/2 mile until you reach Grindstone Lake Road. Turn right onto this road and proceed about 1/4 mile to the parking lot.

The parking facility is excellent. You can park less than 50 feet away from the trail head. There are portable latrines in the lower parking lot.

Good for jogging and biking. Took me an hr with a dog and slower female hiker. Pretty populated with visitors.
