Just drive into the park on US-441 passing Gatlinburg (Sugarlands GSMNP Visitor Center & Park HQ) on the north or the Eastern Cherokee Indian Reservation (Oconaluftee GSMNP Visitor Center) on the south. For those coming from the north and east, I-40 is the closest Interstate.

I did this over a year ago when we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway end to end and a whole bunch of little hikes along the way. This was one of the most memorable.

Really cool view from this observation tower at the highest point in TN. Highly recommend getting out to see this one especially if you're coming off of the AT in the winter time when the access road is closed. We had the whole place to ourselves but either way the 360 view offered from the tower is one of the best you will get in the smokies!

Beautiful views. Gradual incline. Paved and spacious trail (no threat of losing your balance). Once at the top, I suggest going all the way up to the observatory tower. I'm deathly terrified of heights, but the views are spectacular and you'll not want to miss this. Family-friendly and easy. Hold small one's hand though, it is still a trail.

The views from the parking lot were almost as breathtaking as the top!

It was beautiful. We went you when it was cloudy and when it was clear. Wow!

Beautiful view at the top BUT not an easy walk up. It is paved from the parking lot to the top but it is there are steep inclines up.

Worth the long drive and even more enjoyable if you time sunrise when being at the top. It was 70 degrees in Gatlinburg but saw snow at the top. Another interesting fact is that the Appalachian trail crosses the top which we used to explain to our kids about the Maine to Georgia hike by walking several miles of it. They loved being able to tell their friends that they hiked a portion of it. It's also interesting to see all the AT trail hikers gather as its a popular spot for taking a break and getting rides to town to re-supply. Many good stories talking to the hikers making the long journey which sparked interest in our kids. Like everything, you get out of it what you put into it. The view is amazing as long as it's not foggy.

This was a paved road that takes you to the highest altitude at the smoky mountains. We didn't really have a good view (too foggy), but still an amazing sight to see and experience.

Great view and easy enough for just about anyone.
