I love little Heavenly Pond. I love parking in the upper lot and doing this trail and then the Hastain.
It even has a little picnic area!

Nice wide well maintained trail with a pretty good elevation. Lots of free parking and clean "real" rest rooms. There are some side trails that are more challenging.
My insider tip - The Hastain trail is at the lower end of the area, if you park in the large upper parking lot of Franklin Canyon park and you come down the west side of the Upper Franklin Reservoir you will see little Heavenly Pond with ducks, turtles and even a couple giant gold fish. In the winter and spring the Upper Franklin Reservoir itself has tonnes of ducks and geese. If you like nature it's worth the extra 1 mile or so to park in the upper lot and take the easy hike down to Hastain.

Hidden gem of a trail. Can be tricky to get to the first time, but is worth the time. There are several trails up in the area. The Hastain loop will take you up a steady grade though not too steep to a view of Los Angeles below. Continue down the hill to the bottom of the loop and you will hit switchbacks to a grassy lawn below. A little further up the road you will come to the lake. It is not that far and you can take a path that starts at the head of Lake Drive with a stairway and follow the path to the lake. The defintely has other people using the trails but it is not too crowded, probably because it is a bit out of the way.

This is more like a very nice "walk in the park" .. very easy , no climbing or strenuous effort needed . Nice picnic area by the small lagoon with koi fishes and ducks.

This a great place to visit. You don't have to travel that far to find a nice atmosphere and to feel that you are out of the big city.

The Sooki Goldman Nature Center is a great place to bring children to introduce them to the excitement of exploring the canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains. Birthday parties can be arranged in their multi-purpose room and there is an ample outdoor amphitheater. Ducks and geese are regularly seen gliding around the Upper Franklin Reservoir.
