When we followed the directions to this trail it took us to a gated community that would not let us through. Could not find the trail...

#saveelescorpionparkwesthillsca This is actually El Escorpion Park, at the end of Vanowen Street in West Hills, CA. Which is part of LA City. It is a very popular park with hikers, walkers and mountain bikers, and used as another entrance into the Santa Monica Recreation Area (at the end of Victory Blvd.) There are Indian burial sites in the area.

Developer Michael Naim, who is fronting Ben Resnick and others, is trying to obtain LA City Park Land, namely El Escorpion Park, in order to build a road through to his proposed development just southwest of this park (a gate guarded private 53+ home development). Namely, it would destroy the park as we know it today.

Contact Reeyan Raynes of the West Hills Neighborhood Council at reeyanv@ymail.com or (323)896-2326 for more information about this proposed development.

Had a fun time here today. We arrived around 11am, the weather was still cool though sunny. The trail to the Cave is flat and easy with some shaded areas along the loop-trail. Entering the Cave requires some low rock-climbing, but nothing extreme. The Cave was a neat experience. It reminded me somewhat of a cathedral interior; the temperature within was very nice and cooling. We decided to take a Northern exit on the recommendation of a fellow hiker (Big Ups! Mark & Dan) and ended up on top of the Cave with panoramic views of the surrounding areas. A strenuous hike upward towards the peak proved to be a challenge, but I enjoyed it as I needed a good workout. With some rock-scrambling and bush-trekking we wound up at Castle Peak. The climb down was steep and hot, but we made it in one piece. Everyone must visit this site at least once. My only disappointment was the trash and debris inside of the Cave left by previous visitors. Do yourself a favor, check it out.

Fun quick hike to the caves, which are really cool! Lots of places to climb around. Some trash inside the caves, probably from teenagers, but other than that, good hike.

Completed this trail on April 19th 2015. I started the trail near Bell Canyon Road. Finding the trail head from the road was not very easy but just use common sense and you will be alright.

I found the trail head and I noticed it somewhat over grown. Certain sections have brush beginning to cover the trail but for the most part it is very managable. A lot of bugs. I have bug stray I use before I start trails. I highly recommend it.

The hike up is strenuous but manageable. At the top there are other trails that appear but again use common sense and you will find the way to the view.

Definitely check this out... Cave isn't that big but still is neat & catching the sunrise on top of the highest ridge was a great sight.

I loved this hike. We actually did it in reverse by accident. We started at castle peak and climbed down to the cave. It was steep and challenging. Took us a good 4 hours. Beautiful views with lots of climbing!

Pretty easy trail but still some good hills. As a beginner I struggled on some of the steeper climbs. I would recommend taking a second look at the map before you go out. The turn to make the trail a loop is an easy miss!
