One of the better day hikes in this area. I did the extended loop, going straight across the peak and down the northern face of the mountain instead of taking the left turn at the top. The trail ends on a fire road, which you travel along for a short distance to get back on the main loop trail described here. I'd definitely recommend doing it that way, that extra mile or so was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Very cool rocks, and you go by some picturesque ponds. Keep an eye out for some foundations from an old settlement on the way back.
There's a pretty good view from a ledge before you reach the peak. Right at the end of the steep part of the climb there's a small, orange-blazed trail going off to the right. In a few hundred feet you reach the ledge. Great views and much less windy than on the fire tower.
Overall, the hike was nothing to write home about, but definitely nice enough to be worth doing if you're in the area and the weather is cooperative. I'd recommend doing it early spring or fall to avoid bugs, as it's marshy and buggy in the summer. Bring a good map as many of the trails aren't well marked. Pawtuckaway offers many other opportunities for outdoor recreation, including some very nice camping sites, so including this hike in a weekend of camping is the best way to do it!

Pretty easy short day hike. Took the trail to the fire tower from the trailhead near the checkpoint. Slow climb until the last half mile or so where it gets steep. The trail is well marked and only takes a few hours. The view from the fire tower is really beautiful and worth the trip. Saw a lot of young kids enjoying the trail as well.

The Alltrails location is incorrect. The actual address is 84 Silk Farm Rd. Concord, NH. There are three easy, well marked trails, all kid friendly. Forest Floor trail (red markers) is .4 miles, Great Turkey Pond Trail (yellow markers) 1.2 miles, and Old Orchard Trail (blue markers) 1 mile. Trail map available http://www.nhaudubon.org/about/centers/mclane/

Easy hike with a pretty last half mile or so and nice views from the peak, but most of the trail weaves between bogs and there are an ungodly number of Mosquitos.

Bring bug spray!

Interesting site and hike, got me huffing and puffing. It is interesting to see the volcanic caldara that these mountains form.
