Excellent view from fire tower, well maintained trails. Heavily trafficked is my only complaint, however it's understandable given the gorgeous views and excellent hiking.

Pawtuckaway State Park is one of four entrances to the triple peaked Pawtuckaway Mountain's forest. The driving road can be reach via Reservation Rd, Deerfield. Boats from Fundy Launch off Deerfield Rd, Nottingham. Free trailhead on Round Pond Rd in Nottingham by the Deerfield line. The forest is filled with sites worth visiting; a fire tower, lake, cellar holes, graveyards, ponds, streams, cliffs, caves, wells and a huge number of gigantic boulders. Diverse fauna and flora not only include wild species of nuts and friuts, but the naturalized apples and black walnuts left behind with the old farms.

This is a place that will surprise you for years of exploring. There are parts for every type of outdoor activity, except whitewater. Do your homework or miss out on the best it has to offer for you.

Fundy to South Ridge Summit Trail

We wanted to go to the fire tower but wanted to add some distance so we entered the park on the Nottingham side. Didn't make it to the fire tower but got to the south ridge summit. Nice hike with some minor elevation until get to the last part of the summit where it gets steep. Good for dogs with some nice bridge crossings. No major brook crossings that didn't have bridges.

Once at the summit, approaching from this location, the trail kind of ends in a little 6' or so drop that seems like it would be difficult to return by, especially with dogs and since we always bring a dog...

We'll do this trail again and take the South Ridge Connector the next time and approach the fire tower from the other side.

I highly recommend the fire tower trail. the view from the top is beautiful. I also really loved the Boulder Park. Patuckaway has a lot to offer and if you're in the area it is worth a visit!
