This is the only National Park in the state of Jharkhand. It was one of the first parks to become a tiger reserve in the year 1974. This park has high diversity with multifarious of indigenous species living in the region. Major vegetation of the region consists of bamboo and sal. Elephants are very common in the region especially during the monsoon time, other species like the tigers, wolves, sloth bears, panthers, etc are found over here as well. Birds like the hornbill, peafowl, red jungle fowl, black partridge, white-necked stork, black ibis, etc are found over here.
National Highways goes through this park making it more accessible for the tourist to reach the locations although to reach the core areas one has to book a safari.
