Hallingskarvet National Park is famous for its stunning landscapes, featuring a unique combination of moorlands, steep cliffs, and panoramic views. The park primarily consists of the Hallingskarvet high plateau, which rises to approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, dominated by the iconic Hallingskarvet mountain. Here, dramatic rock formations sharply contrast with the stark alpine plateau and the surrounding lush areas.
The park is home to several notable peaks, with Folarskardnuten being the highest at 1,933 meters, followed by Storeskuta at 1,870 meters and Prestholtskarvet at 1,859 meters. Flakavatnet, located within the park, is notable for being Norway's highest lake at 1,453 meters. The park is rich in wildlife, hosting larger mammals such as mountain deer, moose, roe deer, Arctic foxes, and mountain hares, with wolverines found in the northern region.
Hallingskarvet offers exceptional nature experiences year-round, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. An extensive network of marked trails and cross-country ski tracks caters to both summer hikers and winter sports fans. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) maintains two cabins within the park—Finsehytta in the south and Geiterygghytta in the north—while private accommodations are available in Raggsteindalen and Haugastøl.
